Seven SCFC employees who are certified sawyers instructed 12 SCFC employee participants during a S-112 Introduction to Chainsaw Operations course at Harbison State Forest mid-February.
This is a prerequisite training course to become a certified sawyer. All of the students, after completion of the course, will need to complete a Position Task Book for Faller 3 before becoming certified.
Day one of the course was in-class instruction that covered chainsaw safety, maintenance, cutting techniques and wildland fire/storm debris operations. The last two days of the training included hands-on practice bucking, limbing, tree felling and storm debris cutting.
