Samsara tracking units have been installed in most Forestry Commission vehicles and dozers. These units will allow the agency to change many of its day-to-day fleet operations:
- Agency mechanics will be able to enter their own work orders into this system when maintenance is done to vehicles/equipment. They will no longer have to write the work order out on paper and send it to the regional administrative assistant for data entry.
- Personnel will eventually begin using a driver app on their phones to track each trip taken in an agency vehicle. This will take the place of the paper log book in each vehicle. All fuel receipts will also be downloaded into the system from this app.
- Eventually, the plan is to have this tracking system show real-time location information in dispatch (FiResponse). This will allow each resource to be dispatched from their current real-time location and will also provide better visibility of resources as they are responding, including being able to see the location of dozers as they are engaged on a fire.
