We’re excited to announce that six prescribed burning trailers are being distributed to the regions for use by contract crews on large prescribed fires.
Grant funds were used to purchase the trailers, wrap them with dynamic, eye-catching designs and equip them with prescribed burning tools and gear.
With graphics covering every side, the trailers will be highly visible and engaging to the public.
The message, “Bringing Good Fire To A Forest Near You,” is emblazoned on the sides, “Burnin’ For You” appears on the front, and the back employs the pun, “We’re Glad You’re Behind Good Fire.”
Each region will receive two trailers – one per unit – each of which will be supplied initially with various hand tools, drip torches, a backpack blower, portable radios, PPE, kestrels and signage that reads “Prescribed Burn Ahead – Do Not Report.”
Additional equipment will be purchased as deemed necessary to conduct these burns safely and effectively.
The Prescribed Fire Training Center in Tallahassee, Fla., has sent crews to South Carolina in the past to help conduct controlled burns, and their crews will benefit from having these trailers available to meet the needs of professional burners, namely not having to haul or ship all the tools needed.
Inventory sheets will be kept with the trailers to ensure all items are checked out and back in after each operational period.
The promotion of good fire and the proper use of prescribed burning is an ongoing effort for all of us at the Commission, and these trailers represent a big step in that direction.
