It’s that time of year again: time to begin scheduling volunteers for this fall’s Wood Magic Forest Fair. Please consider volunteering your time to help SC fourth-graders learn the importance of forests and the forest industry to their everyday lives.
The dates for this year’s fair are:
- Piedmont Forestry Center (Tamassee): Sept. 30–Oct. 3
- Harbison State Forest (Columbia): Oct. 20–24
- Sewee Environmental Education Center (Awendaw): Nov. 18–21
Those of you who’ve helped us in the past know that putting these events together is no small undertaking. To conduct these programs, we need approximately 28 volunteers each day to serve as guides, instructors and helpers. Each volunteer is given a t-shirt, lunch and the satisfaction that they have helped provide the youth of our state an important pro-forestry experience. There is an opportunity for everyone who wants one amongst the 17 days of programming and set up. Sign up for as few or as many days as you are interested in volunteering.
How to sign up:
- Visit the WMFF volunteer page and look under “2025 Work Schedule” to see what days and positions are available (updated weekly, typically Monday mornings). You can also find lesson plans, driving directions and other information at this site.
- Complete the WMFF Volunteer Sign Up Form with your requested location, date and position. Videos of all learning stations are posted online on under volunteer resources if you are unsure about a station.
Put any special requests in the comment box and please be specific (eg: I only like to work the Good Fire/Bad Fire station, and I could work on Tuesday or Wednesday, but not both dates). If you select that you are available all week, you WILL be scheduled for the whole week. Please only select the actual days you would like to work, but you can put in the comments that you are flexible/available more if needed.
