For several years, the Forestry Commission has offered employees a choice of three appreciation items in observance of Public Servant Recognition Week each May. This practice began in response to the COVID-19 epidemic, during which employees were prevented from gathering in large numbers for group meals, as was the traditional way public service recognition previously had been celebrated in our agency.
Some employees expressed a desire to bring back the group meal celebration instead of picking an appreciation item, so we put the question to a vote by way of an agency-wide survey in November.
Drumroll, please…
Two-hundred-forty-two people – two-thirds of the agency – participated in the survey, and the vote wasn’t very close. By an overwhelming margin, nearly 4-1, employees voted to continue choosing from among three agency-branded items.
With the matter definitively settled, at least for 2026, it’s time to begin thinking about about the items we’ll offer this coming year. Please send your ideas to us, keeping the following considerations in mind:
- Items can’t be more than $50 per person;
- Clothing/apparel items are not eligible;
- Gift cards are not allowed.
