In the air
Coastal Region Pilot Jimmy Tobias sent in photos from two fires in Colleton County. A lightning strike caused this fire in Colleton County on Can City Road June 30.
Eventually totaling 432 acres, the fire kept reigniting and/or escaping for four weeks.
The Incident Commander was Bamberg/Colleton Sector Fire Management Officer (FMO) Scott Ulmer.
Another lightning strike started a wildfire July 30, this time on Otter Island in Colleton County.
Ulmer was Incident Commander on this fire as well, and it was contained at nine acres.

Piedmont Region FIA (Forest Inventory & Analysis) Forestry Technician Wesley Bouknight, FIA Forester Sam Hale and FIA Forester David Carter found this copperhead on an FIA plot in northern Greenville County the morning of Friday, July 31.
