The SC Future Farmers of America (FFA) state forestry competition was held on May 3rd at Harbison State Forest. Fifty-five students from 15 different schools were tested on tree identification, timber stand improvement, timber cruising, forestry equipment, and general forestry practices. The competition was arranged and hosted by SC Forestry Commission Environmental Education Coordinators Leslie Wilson and Matt Schnabel and SC FFA staff members Troy Helms and Mindy Sandifer. Congratulations to the team from the SC Governor’s School for Agriculture who won the competition and will represent South Carolina at the national forestry competition in Indiana in October.
