2023 grafts to be harvested this fall

Grafts made in 2023 immediately began forming conelets one year later. They should be ready to harvest this fall. These cones are developing in the 4th-Cycle Coastal loblolly pine seed orchard.

Niederhof Seed Orchard Manager Chris King noticed a significant number of 2-year-old grafts forming conelets this spring, so hopefully we’ll be able to collect even more cones in 2026. He is encouraged by this early production, although the grafts aren’t large enough to produce a significant quantity of cones, which wills imply take more time.
